Last September, during our work retreat, Linda and I were dining at a lovely restaurant in Maastricht. We received a beautiful, stylish carafe of water. I poured, and half of it ended up on the table. “What an awkward jug!” we chuckled. Linda poured the second round. For her, half ended up on the floor. “What a useless jug! Beautiful, but of no use!” we laughed. An employee came to mop the floor. “Yes, that jug, it’s impossible,” we apologized. To which she dryly replied, “It’s just a matter of technique.” At first, we were taken aback, then burst into laughter. “Yes, that’s another perspective.” We never doubted ourselves for a moment, but the lady proved her point with the third jug. Next time, we’ll think twice before blaming the jug. A Matter of Technique; The Other Perspective
