Podcast
In September 2021, I had a very enjoyable and inspiring conversation with Petra Kuipers from Implementatiedokter about resistance, dissenting opinions, and Deep Democracy. This led to a podcast about the wisdom behind resistance. Last autumn, we spoke again and had a lively discussion about actively seeking out dissenting opinions. That also resulted in another excellent podcast.
Wisdom behind resistance
In the September 2021 podcast, we reflect on questions such as ‘Why actively seek out dissenting opinions in your work?’ and ‘What is the value of dissenters in decision-making?’ A conversation about the wisdom of the (sometimes silent) minority, about the importance of relationship contracts in your work, and about how you can protect yourself against opposition.
Seek Dissenting Opinions
In the second podcast, Petra and I specifically discuss actively seeking out dissenting opinions and how that can help your team progress. Based on my experience with CoResolve, the Deep Democracy variant of communication techniques, and group facilitation, I provide a few concrete examples of how to do this. Additionally, topics such as: Why do organizations hire external parties for certain interventions, and is that truly necessary? What do you do when you’ve reached your ‘expiration date’ as a facilitator? What is currently needed to overcome the present polarization?
